Do you have joint pain?

As modern medicine is keeping us alive for longer, it is more important than ever to do daily maintenance exercises for our joints. The older we get, the more maintenance we need, but just like a bike with a rusty chain, if you keep your joints and muscles “well-oiled” by doing daily exercises.
In fact, my oldest patient to date was ninety-eight(98) years old and it took me ten(10) minutes to get him onto my physio bed and ten(10) minutes to get him off it at the end of his session, yet at the end of the session he asked me how long it would be before he got back to playing tennis! After a discussion with his GP, I discovered that he was in fact the oldest tennis player in Australia! I was unsure how to answer his question and was extremely shocked when he returned to tennis within a few weeks!
This taught me many valuable lessons:

  • Just because we are old and have arthritis, we don’t have to be in pain.
  • Older people often become pain free faster than younger people because they have more time to do their prescribed exercises and are often more diligent with them.
  • The better we can understand our body, the less likely we are to injure it.
