Postural Taping

We have all seen sports men and women with taping to shoulders or parts of their body usually during a game like AFL football or other sport.

Did you know that Postural Taping can be used for both the treatment and prevention of upper back and neck injuries?
Adhesive, non-stretch (rigid) sports tape is generally used e.g. Elastoplast.
Sally uses an undertape to prevent rashes or allergies developing.

When you use the tape you are locked in to a certain (correct posture). There is movement but limited.’
This serves as a great reminder of where your posture should be and also alerts you to situations you are not in a correct posture.

Relying on tape alone is not a long term answer – emphasis should be on building the core strength using Pilates like excercises to ensure you can hold and maintain a correct posture. Also many people develope a rash when using the tape for long periods.

Periodic use of tape allows you to gain awareness of when you are not in a correct posture.

For example you may discover you are sleeping incorrectly or sitting slumped at your desk all day.

A phsyiotherapist is trained at correcting postural problems and can tape you correctly.
