Size Does Matter for Exercise Balls

Exercise balls can be an excellent peice of equipment for Pilates style excercises.

Recently I asked Sally what type of ball is best and was surprised at the answer. I thought this would make an excellent article because it is from the perspective of a Physiotherapist.

Sally indicated it was important to have your hips slightly higher than your knees when sitting on the ball.

Height – Recommended ball size

Under 4’8″ 45 cm ball

4’8” to 5’3” 55 cm ball

5’4” to 5’10 65 cm ball

5’10 to 6’4 75cm ball

Important – just because the ball says 55cm on the pack you should measure the diameter when inflated by placing it next to a wall and then measuring the distance.
You can vary the inflation to get the right posture for yourself.

Where to buy an exercise ball
Sally did say that it may not be necessary to buy an anti burst ball.
However it can sometimes be irritating to purchase a ball and find out is is warped, difficult to inflate or uncomforable on the skin.
Amart all sports on the Gold Coast stock good quality balls – the saleperson did mention certain brands they found inadequate.
